[ST] How to fix coolant/radiator leak?

I've been smelling coolant when stopped at a light and the motor is hot
(2002 RS, 38K miles). I assumed I had a small leak somewhere that was slowly
evaporating and when stopped it rose straight up instead of being blown away
by the wind. I think it's getting worse and I have a feeling it's on the
left side of the radiator based on some stains on the engine case. So my
question is:
Is it safe or wise to use car radiator leak plugging stuff like Barre's Leak
(sp?) or similar? You know, the stuff you dump in a car radiator to fix
small leaks? I believe that some radiator leaks can be repaired by
brazing/soldering, but I've no experience with that. Of course I could pony
up for a new one, but fear that would be huge money. Yes, I'm a cheap bastid
that likes to save a buck if I can...
