Neil,

I did run the engine w/ the tank off and w/ no special part. Just need 
to put the tank on two trestles (is  the word correct
for 1meter and something foldable stand?) on the right side of the bike 
w/ the front side of the tank at the rear. Strap it
on the trestles and you have enouth hose length to connect the injector 
rail and probably the fuel gauge sensor too. If you don't connect
the fuel gauge you will have the MIL on and the gauge at 0.  It will 
clear after 3 COMPLETE cycles after  connected back on. Not a big deal.
