Re: [ST] Dont let the bastards get you......

" it's just that people, in general (myself included), don't like any laws
that dictate (or restrict, for that matter) how they should behave or go
about their daily business."

The point, which I believe Mr. Doggydoo, professed is that laws that only
impact on the individual DO restrict personal freedom. If you don't want to
wear a helmet it only hurts you. If you want to end your own miserable
existence that's your call. It should not be the government's call. The
problem is when your need for personal freedom curtails how others go about
their business is where laws need be made (and enforced). Making some
lunatic think before they run that red light may be restricting the personal
freedom of the lunatic, but it's allowing a family to approach an
intersection without fear of a trip to the hospital thus expanding their
personal freedom. You could make the personal freedom argument for Ted
Bundy if you want. The state's law against rape and murder seriously
curtailed his personal freedoms. Old Sparky put his personal freedoms to an
end and I'm sure at that instant a lot of people felt an expansion of their
freedom.
