You are right.

Worst case scenario. I had to take the tank off and drain it. I had to get 
the plate off the tank (the assembly with the fuel filter and pump). The 
connector broke off completely as predicted, leaving the threaded part of 
the plastic in the plate. Proves my theory that female parts are 
unpredictable, difficult to get at and stubborn to deal with. Well, not all 
of them. I'll have to get it to work with me tomorrow and chip and chisel it 
out. Bastid!
