Re: [ST] Cylinder pressure problem

You know, the more I think about this the more I'm convinced that the dealer
can't have performed a correct leakdown test, otherwise he'd know where the
problem was or would have at least eliminated a number of obvious options.
Maybe he didn't lock the crank for the test? Dunno but you could always
perform your own test with a home made compression tester.

All you need to do is hollow out an old spark plug and have an air fitting
brazed onto the end. Set the piston to TDC on the compression stroke and
lock the crank in position. Now hook up a compressor and get some pressure
in there.

If you hear air leaking out through the throttle body then the inlet valves
are to blame, if it comes leaking out past the exhaust valves then there's
the problem and if it gurgles through the engine breather or out the oil
filler then the rings are history. Repeat for each cylinder and you'll at
least know if the valves and rings are ok or if a stripdown is necessary.
