Eric,

I have the '06 ABS version and, like you, live in the Pacific NorthWet.  I
have only felt the ABS kick in once (on the front) and felt the (very)
slight shudder of it working.  I didn't lock up the front and didn't have
anything unhappy happen when it kicked in.  I guess it worked and so I am
happy I have it.  I commute in just about any weather (not snow or ice) and
think it is a small price to pay for that little extra stopping power.

I also read the article that someone else mentioned and it said that none of
the riders could match the stopping power of the ABS simply because it
allowed maximum stopping power without fear of locking up.  And the
reduction in stopping distance was really significant.  Without the ABS, the
riders were not as liberal with brake pressure so they didn't get the
maximum stopping power they might have had.  The ABS didn't add any but it
allowed the max to be applied.

It does add cost and it does add a little weight (7 lbs or 1.5%) but I like
having it.

I've been looking for a new Sprint. In my attempts to find a better "deal",
I've found there are a lot more '05 ABS Sprints around than non-ABS. I've
never owned an ABS bike and I'm hesitant buying one, especially a $10k one!
Anyone who has a Sprint ABS and has actually experienced the ABS kick in,
I'd be curious (and appreciative) to hear what it was like and how the bike
behaved. I would never own a cage without ABS, which for cars should be
termed "ability to brake and steer" instead of "anti-lock braking system,"
but not so sure I want a motorycle with it.

Oh, and if anyone knows anyone interested in a green '01 ST, mine is for
