Re: [ST] HyperPro springs vs Racetech springs

Walt,
I have installed HyperPro springs in an 02 ST and have later installed the
RT emulators. I have also installed RT springs and emulators in a previous
bike, an 02 Kawasaki Concours. I'm about 235 pounds. Both bikes had stock
dual rate springs and both were some type of compromise that surely didn't
fit me. The point being any change would show a significant improvement.
The HyperPro's made a very big difference but primarily at lower speeds. The
stock springs gave a very harsh ride at lower speeds but were OK for me at
higher speeds. The HyperPro's were excellent across the board but had some
issues on very specific types of pavement. For example high frequency, low
amplitude ripples would seem to pump up the forks and become harsh. The
emulators made the forks more compliant in those specific places where the
HyperPro's had a deficiency. In my opinion HyperPro's alone will do for the
touring guy and RT's are probably better for the sport oriented guy.

I haven't checked RT's website calculator in a while but it gave the
appearance that you were using a bunch of factors to get the right setting
but it all boiled down to your weight and the spring that corresponded to
it. The other stuff really didn't change anything. Somewhere around 210
pounds it would say 1.2 kg/mm and up but the most they had was .95 or maybe
1.0 kg/mm.

The retailer used to be MicronUSA but it has changed. Try the HyperPro
website and it should have the current retailer.
