Re: [ST] 05 ST First Long Ride

Ya know I must be in a very small minority here....I don't mind the seat
on my 02 ST at all. I have ridden 600+ mile days several times - 3K in 10
days riding etc. etc. and I have never really had an issue with it. Now,
it may be that I don't have an issue since I have my
own....er.....built-in padding in that area (as people on this list who
know me will attest....I am quite fond of beer - and cheese especially on
a Friday night :) Also, on my trip to St. Paul, I did wear cycle shorts
with a gel patch on the most sensitive areas - that seemed to work a
treat.

It keeps the manufacturing costs, and thus the competitive price down.
And nobody takes a test ride long enough to know if the seat is absilute
crap - as can be seen by everyone who has actually test ridden their bike,
and then complained only after taking a long ride on it.

After having a Corbin on my ST for so long I find it very difficult to go
back to the softer stock seats that the manufacturers supply. So much so
that I'm looking at ordering a Corbin or Sargent for both the Guzzi and
the K1200.

I can understand the manufacturers using the seat pans and upholstery
materials that they do. It keeps down weight and manufacturing costs. I
also appreciate that the OE seats are designed as much for form as for
function. But surely the closed cell foam used by the seat specialist
companies can't be all that more expensive than the useless soft foam the
factories use. The seats on the 955 STs would end up as a thin layer of
compressed foam pancake after just a couple of hundred miles.
