Re: [ST] Bike or Rider?

I totally agree that it is more about the rider than the bike, and the statement that you'll only go as fast as you (the rider) can go.

That said, with equal riders, a better bike mike make a difference (pull away on the straights, maybe a little easier to turn in, handles bumps and power delivery better - that sort of stuff). Additionally, if you are good, you could possibly exceed the limits of a bike and want more. For example, I could ride the piss out of my Speedmaster, and for all of the average to good riders that I could keep up with or go faster than, an equal (and maybe even a slightly less) rider would go faster than me on a sport bike. I know that the comparison is quite a difference in bikes, but it is just to demonstrate a point.

Again, it is much more the rider than the machine, but if you are competing and have other people that might be the same or better, every little bit helps. Just some thoughts.

Now it is just advertising, but it's nice to know that possibly the bike is setup well.

I just saw a classified add for a race bike for sale. It was touting how the bike was a champion with all "x" amount of pole starts, race wins, etc. It got me thinking. As great as that all sounds, and no doubt the bike is preped as good as it can be, it's still all the rider. The bike can't win that all on it's own. It needs a rider. And that's not all. It needs a rider who can utilize that top notch bike to it's fullest or beyond.

It reminded me of these golf club ads touting extra distance and strokes off your game. Sure a club design can add 50 yards to your game, but if you suck (like I do) your slice will only go that 50 yards further into the trees. :-)

I think that goes the same for motorcycles. All that technology and setup isn't gonna do a lick of good unless you're able to use it properly, right?

So, bike or rider? I thinks it's a mixture of both.
