Re: [ST] Exhaust can clearance Q...

A high temp anti seize product like Loctite's C5-A or Permatex's (?)
Nickel-eze on the fastener threads does wonders when it's time to take
things apart or squeeze that last little bit on a clamp bolt. The local
auto parts places should have the stuff in two or three sizes. A little
bit goes a long way. Get the smallest package you can find. I run the
maintenance shop in a large (125,000 sq ft) electronics factory, and a
four ounce can lasts for years and years and we use the stuff
constantly. I've also had good luck using Teflon thread sealant tape as
anti-seize on alloy steel (the black ones) fasteners threaded into both
cast and forged aluminum up to around 450 degrees F.

Well after loosening up all related bolts, jiggling things around to
realign and retighten, I think I now have about 5/8" clearance. Added
some Black Permatex while I was at it as the clamp still wouldn't get
tight enough for a seal so we'll see after that sets up...

Careful with those clamp bolts too, mine finally snapped while loosening

it, fortunately had a nice stainless cap head that fit nicely to replace

it with.

I still don't get it, same clamp from original can, and the off-road can

doesn't seem to be all that loose when you slip it over the pipe, so
something else must be off.
