In my personal opinion there isn't any other reason for the ST to have 
the single sided swing arm other than sex appeal.  The RS was designed to 
be more sporty and the DSSA performs better and weighs less, end of story.

Nope, it's heavier and less stiff (from what I'm told).  Double bad 
whammy performance wise.  But it sure does look good and the VFR, which 
Triumph clearly had in their sights with the design of the original ST, 
had one.
