I'm refuting your statement, but that is quite an assumption (and one that many non-riders make).  I have lots of friends who have been hit by cars, and just because they were on a motorcycle does not mean that they were "exceeding the speed limit by a high amount"...

I don't know the particulars of this accident, but I'd have to say if 
you are exceeding the speed limit by a high amount, and someone turns 
left in front of you, they're going to have a pretty good defense. 
Especially if you're on a motorcycle.
