I've watched this discussion for a while and at the risk of speaking for a whole country, I'm yet to meet anyone in Australia that rides a motorcycle and disagrees with the mandatory helmet law. Its as accepted as night follows day. Ride a motorcycle, wear a helmet. Infact, some lawyer type has discovered that the law in some states may extend to riding a motorcycle on private property. As far as I'm aware that one is still being debated.  Helmets are also mandatory for bicycles. 
 
The question of this being an erosion of civil rights or our freedoms being taken away, doesnt enter the equation. Say this to most people and they have a hard time figuring out how that can be.
 
Parking fines and speed cameras are erosions of freedoms as they are simply another revenue arm of the guv-ment and the people that work in the employ of such things are parasites on society. But thats just my opinion.
 
I have heard stories of cops pulling over people that wear open face helmets and giving them a stern warning to get a full face. Unless they are on a Harley...
 
So I guess I and people I have spoken with, find it diffuclt to fathom that there is so much opposition to wearing a helmet and/or a law that says you will.  
 
Perhaps someone could explain this point of view?

Give me a break.  You can go ahead and spend at least $400 on a fancy painted 
Arai or Shoei.  Me, I'm good with a $110-$130 plain jane white HJC that will 
protect me just as well.
