 At the swap meets and shows and the like, these plain fiberglass or plastic "buckets" are sold all over, also big sellers are dealers old stock of helmets and surpluses of some distributors. Now there are some good deals as some of branded helmets have big discounts and are 2-4 years old. But there are alot that are 6-8 & as much as 15 years old new in the box. You are  taking on a pretty big gamble when you buy a "new" 10 year old helmet.

I thought your reference to $10-$20 helmet was a sarcastic jab at the cheaper 
$110-$130 helmets.  I didn't really know or think that there were actually 
$10-20 helmets out there for riding (except for bicycles).

Give me a break.  You can go ahead and spend at least $400 on a fancy painted 
Arai or Shoei.  Me, I'm good with a $110-$130 plain jane white HJC that will 
protect me just as well.
