[ST] Mystery Fuel System Connection

This weekend I was moving the ST around the garage and heard a clicking sound that I discovered was a hose fitting rattling on the chain. After referrencing the shop manual it turns out it is part of the tip over protection preventing the fuel from dumping out. Bear with me since I do not have my manual with me at the moment and my description will be poor.

Per the manual, the anti-spill line runs vertically from the tank to a T or Y fitting. At this juncture the line runs to 1. a pressure valve(?) and 2. to a return line that ultimately forms a loop around the valve and goes through a one way fitting. On my ST, it appears that the connection to the one way fitting has come undone and by the looks of things has been this way for some time due to the grime on the plastic. The bike seems to run fine. I did not pull the tank yet. Should I be worried about this disconnected connection? To add to my poor description, the entire system is covered in a ribbed plastic casing.
