[ST] 955 motor

Well my 00 RS is in for it's annual physical and the findings so far
aren't favorable. #1 cylinder has oil in it and has high compression
(220) and the #2 and 3 cylinders are at an even 170. Means one or all
of three things, scored cylinder, worn valve guides, rings not doing
their job causing build up in the combustion chamber. So at 76,000
miles my Rs is probably about done. I am more than disappointed that a
regularly maintained modern motor has gone bad this soon. I figured I'd
get at least 100k out of it before anything major went wrong, but not
the case. The real disheartening thing about it is that todays bikes
are basically built as a throw away item. It will cost upwards of a
grand to do the top end and a used motor would cost about half that. So
any plans for distance riding are over for this year and the real season
hasn't even begun. I think I am going to try and buy another triumph
this summer, but have been impressed with some of the asian bikes
performance and reliability records. If I do try another Triumph I am
going to get a Tiger or Daytona 955. I am definitely going to have to
locate another motor for this bike and will be keeping it as a second
bike to beat around on.
