My '00 Sprint ST has 79,000 miles. I have not done a compression check resently. I am using some oil, about 1 quart every 4000+ miles. I have not noticed any running problems, power seams normal.
So far so good.
I am hoping that your motor is just one of the few on the low end of the endurance range.
