I've run heated grips on high, along with a Widder vest on high all day,
multiple days, with no charging problems. If you are doing a lot of
stop and go, you might have some problems. My old Beemer doesn't start
charging until about 3500 rpm and will run out of battery in stop and go
traffic. I don't know what RPM the Sprints really start charging at.
I like my Widder vest (I purchased a battery cord for it so my outlet
would be free for other things) along with a heat-troller which allows
variable heat settings. I also have a battery cord on all of the bikes,
so I can just plug the vest into the bike I'm riding. I've never tried
a Gerbing, but I do like the idea of their jacket which comes with
sleeves. If you want to plug either vest into the outlet, Widder and
Gerbing sell the BMW adaptor plug for their vests.
