Re: [ST] Enough Power?

I did an informal product test up here in Maine last season looking at both the BMW (widder?) vest and Gerbing full liner. I rode in temps well into the low 20s in my test. I found the vest was designed to fit closer to the core than the jacket and in theory it made sense to me. The Gerbing is looser and fits more like a factory jacket liner. The vest was very warm, but I did find that, despite the "distance" from the core, the Gerbing was warmer overall. The warmth on the arms was really nice to keep my nonheated hands warm. The Gerbing did have some cold spots due to the looser fit on me but the extra output was noticed.

I am interested however in the Aerostich heated fleece liner since I liked the soft feel of the fleecy collar the BMW vest had and being one that lives in fleece I like the insulative properties the fleece has by design. The Gerbing liner was nylon and a bit grabby on my beard. The neck of the BMW vest was also tighter fitting than the Gerbing. The 'stitch heated liners come as a full liner AND as a vest with removable sleeves as an option (not certain if they are heated sleeves, though).

The BMW vest used the standard BMW plug and the Gerbing I was using was hard wired. I would likely plug direclty into the outlet with a powerlet though. The Aerostitch liners have many options

If I had a choice I would likely go with a slightly smaller Gerbing or Aerostitch liner to be tighter fitting with a heat troller.

  My $.02.

I finally have my heated grips. Now I am considering a heated vest to keep
my chest as toasty as my hands. Anyone know if the alternator on the Sprints
will support all the electrical stuff running along with the grips on high
and a heated vest plugged in?

Anyone have any advice on heated vests or where to get such an animal? What
about the plug to fit our outlets?

Thanks.. Bigd
