[ST] Clutch ?

With 17,000 miles on my '01 ST, I've been getting what seems like either
excessive play in the drive train. It's like my clutch is not releasing fully
when shifting in the lower gears and then completely releases a second latter.
It is consistent in doing this and it is most noticeable in the lower gears
like 1-2, 2-3. The chain seems properly adjusted and I can't detect slop in
the rear "cush" drive (although I haven't disassembled it to check for wear).
Any suggestions?
