Re: [ST] Several questions

It might just be the brand of fuel. When I first got my RS 5 years ago (wow! it's been that long already?) my owners manual said 90 something RON. I was like what? After investigating I found out that our (USA) octane number is based on R+M/2
or RON+MON/2. I called the Cycle Riders of Orlando (plug) who has an excellent Triumph tech, and asked. My answer was typically 89 octane works. However, the R+M/2 formula allows manufacturers to play with the numbers so the RON in one brand of fuel may be 95 but another type may be 92. The octane number is the same thought because they make up the difference in the MON.

I've found, here in FLA, that Texaco and Exxon 89 work fine. It's hit and miss with Hess, sometimes it's fine and sometimes it pings. The cheap gas like Walmart or other no-names don't work period.

That's my experience. That, and I have no hills here so that helps too.

My 2002 Sprint RS pings on 89 if I open it up on an uphill corner. Just
tried running a tank of 89 this morning and it still pings. Switched back to
premium (91, 92 whatever) and it's fine.
