Interesting... the other scenario I just thought of is where the coolant and
air temprerature sensors are reconnected oppositely.  The wires on a 99 ST are
long enough to mix them up (don't ask how I know) and so the computer thinks
that the engine never warms up but it's really really hot outside.  Engine runs
but not well.  This does not show up as a fault code.  I can't believe the
"bad" sensor on your bike did not show a code?  I wonder if they inadvertently
switched the two temp sensor wires?  If they did not pull the airbox, then this
would not be the issue.  Just a thought.
