Hello all,
I just bought a 2001 RS. I purchased the bike in Sydney and rode it home to
Melbourne (1200km trip). During the trip, the temperature sat at a pretty
constant 84 degrees Celcius.
This morning I rode the bike to work - the first time that I'd been in
traffic.
To my surprise, when stationary, the temperature kept going up! The highest
that I saw it was 'boiling' at 102 C! When I started moving again, it
settled back in the 80s.
Is this normal? This is the first bike that I've had with a temp guage, so
am not sure what they're supposed to do.
Is it safe to let the temp go that hot? Am I going to stuff a head gasket?
Also - it wasn't at all hot this morning... probably only 20 degrees.
Melbourne can get well into the mid 40's in the summer.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated :-)
Damien
