I also agree on the motor size point.  After nearly 40k miles and
several 2000+ mile trips, my somewhat anemic 650 twin proved to be a
little small for my needs.  

I'm really enjoying my 01 Sprint, but an 800 triple would be even
better, lighter and still peppy enough.  Think they'll ever make a 675
touring-friendly model with a seat height appropriate for shorter
riders?  That BMW 800ST looks really good.

I echo Matt's comment on why.
The motor is fantastic and I have never felt the need for needing more
power. The linearity of the motor is the cat's meow.
And the first thing an insurance agent ask you is "Is it over 1,000
CC's".
Heat is just a offshoot of messing with what brung you to the party.
