Re: [St] New motor

I dont expect Triumph to make a dedicated touring rig (ala F800) out of the 675. But I agree, if the 675 were retuned into a DS bike, I think a lot of folks would head that way. I was looking at the KTM 640 but the thumper shakes a bit much but generates lots of yummy torque. I would not be surprised to see a Tiger Cub out of the 675.

I too toured on my 647 Honda (Hawk GT) and found it lacking in lots of ways. The BMW800 is a nice looking alternative, but at the moment I cant justify offloading my 01. And I just like my Sprint too much. I get that total grin overload when I ride it.

never understood while anybody needed DS bikes bigger than 650/700 - not
like you need it in the dirt (unless you are Jimmy Lewis) and that is plenty
for highway use (which if you are a true DS'er, you keep to a min anyway).
Look at how they struggled on Long Way Round with those HUGE GS' (although
they did take half the Snap-On catalog with them)

Triumph seem to have a peach of an engine in the 675 (they had some issues
early on - as most do with 1st gen bikes/engines - but I think they have
most of the bugs sorted out)

Me too. I think Kawasaki and now Aprilia are on the right track with 750 cc
power plants. The bikes end up nice and light, but still have enough poke to
keep us mere mortals entertained while returning the kind of fuel mileage
liter plus bikes only dream of. I'd probably be really happy with a 750
triple in my ST, and they probably wouldn't be able to build the 750 Tiger
fast enough to keep up with sales.

I echo Matt's comment on why.
The motor is fantastic and I have never felt the need for needing more
power. The linearity of the motor is the cat's meow. And the first thing an
insurance agent ask you is "Is it over 1,000 CC's". Heat is just a offshoot
of messing with what brung you to the party.
