Stephen,

I had the same problem last year.

As Nathan states, Let it tick over till the cooling fan cuts in then switch 
it off and most importantly - leave it to cool down compleatly.
Do this, in total 3 times and the light should go out. If it doesn't then 
its a dealer thing.

As you say - make sure oil and temp light do what they should i.e. go out 
and stay out!

I found out that with mine it was a kind of warning that the battery was 
about to drop a cell!!
