Your ability to think on your seat probably saved you from either a
really expensive engine melt down or a really painful and expensive case
of road rash.
Well done.
I don't think I have the presence of mind to calmly shut the engine down
like that. I'm going to use your little non-incident as the impetus to
train some muscle memory back into my thumb, and start shutting the
motor off with the kill switch. I used to use it on my dirt bikes
because that's all they had, but I got out of the habit on street bikes
because they have a key switch....
