They are the two groups that are over represented in bike crashes on the
island of Oz.

Youngsters just getting into it and 40 and 50 somethings getting back into it
after 20 years away, still with a current motorcycle licence, not having
learnt to ride properly inthe first place as riding skills as we now know them had
been identified and developed.

As a result, there are moves to gain awareness and acknowledgement of the
skills required to control a motorcycle properly.

We've discussed compulsary helmet laws before on this list. We've had these
laws in Australia since the late 70's early 80's and its fair to say that on
the whole, motorcycle riders agree it should be so. Many, myself included, are
not to fussed on open face helmets. Ever seen a picture of someone after they
have come off and the first thing to hit the bitumen was their face with no
protection?

A point of view that I for one find difficult to understand is how there can
be resistance to compulsary helmet and seat belt laws, citing that its an
invasion of civil liberties and constitutional rights.
