your calculations for the two final drive ratios are correct, but dropping 2
teeth up front is equivalent to adding 5 teeth to the rear, not 8
43/19 = 2.263
43/17 = 2.529
48/19 = 2.526
the rule of thumb I use is that each tooth removed from the front sprocket
is roughly equivalent to an additional 2.5 teeth on the rear sprocket
