Probably not related as others have mentioned Steve...
Search the archives on this, I have a few posts detailing the magnet in the
pickup "freezing" up. Drop the front wheel, use a pick or screwdriver to
carefully "prise" the magnet out without gouging it up then clean it and the
cylinder, re-lube with white lithium grease and reassemble. Take care to see
that the "ears" on the wheel mate up with the magnet, you may have to pry them
out a bit too, that is, if they haven't chewed the top off of the magnet.
I've had this happen to both of my ST's. Hope it helps.
