Re: [St] Moving 01 Sprint Can Down, To Accomodate Bags

Absolutely, if I get you right. There is a bracket that (I assume)
comes with the factory side bag mounting kit that extends the footpeg
mount point down about 3". Loosen the pipe clamp under the center
stand, rotate the pipe down, line everything up and tighten properly.

Since I picked up my used ST already fully bagged, I can't speculate on
getting just the bracket/nut/bolt assembly on its own.

Anyone else?

Subject: [St] Moving 01 Sprint Can Down, To Accomodate Bags

(Am I stupid, or is there no link on the main page to post to this
forum? I HOPE this works...)

I have heard, many times, of a factory-authorized means by which one
can lower the muffler can, so that there is more room for bigger touring
bags, and that is it easily reversalbe. I searched thru my owner's
manual, and could not find anything. I own an '01 US-Spec Sprint ST,
btw.

Did I dream this up one night after too many Abita Beers and boiled
crawfish, or is there really such a procedure?

  Thanks.

Apart from all that, I think the original saddle isn't really a paradise
for the pillion (99-04). The very rear foam is so thin that you're
close to be directly on the
grab rail bolts.

Thanks for the really kind offer Pat. I'm travelling at the moment, back
in the UK weekend 9/10 Feb. Perth have offered me a really good trade in
on the ER-5 (subject to them seeing it) so I think I may go down there
when I get back.

Can you tell me what the service schedule is. At11,200 miles, what would
the last / next service be and is it a biggy?

Thanks

Bill

at the same price as Perth but they give a warranty - i wont, but at
least you can get a feel for the bike before you see it.
Shirlaws is a grand more expensive, isnt it?.....mines blue lol

Bill, the 12k service is a biggie. Its the valve clearance check, along
with all the other usual stuff. I'd try to get them to do it before
buying, or have it included in the deal somehow. I don't know what UK
service costs are, but my 12k service ran almost $600US (so figure in
the neighborhood of 300-350gpb maybe?) It all depends on what is needed.
There's a chart floating around on the web (maybe at TriumphRAT.net?)
that lists all the items for the various services.

Bill i used Jim Hay in Means Street. He went and got the computer chip
updated through the dealer at a fraction of the price. Cost me around
?250. A bike that age - i wouldnt worry whether its dealer stamped.

they plug something into a computer as part of the service, someone
else will explain it better than i ever could. I was using shorthand
-i dont get much time with email at the moment. The ECU software
upgrade is it not?

OK that makes more sense. Yes the ECU gets plugged into a diagnostic
computer
it checks for error codes and they also download the latest tune for
said
motorcycle etc

I thought you were referring to a replacement chip or something along
those
lines.

Brett.
