I will chime in another vote for, "it depends". I have had punctures occur in as little as 500mi on a new tire. I am in agreement with much of what has been said about location of the puncture in the tire.
I have had repairs last for 4-5000mi. The challenge is finding a cycle shop that will do the patch.
IMHO, it depends whether or not you are comfortable with the repair and riding on a patched tire. If it is always on your mind, replace it.

I can vouch for the inner plug method.
When I had a my GSX750F, I went through a very unlucky stretch and ended up
with four punctures in a single rear tyre. Each from a nail or screw. Each time
I would take the rear wheel off, take it to my local bike shop and they
repaired the tyre using the vulcanising type plugs that go in from the inside. I
have never seen or heard of one of these repairs failing and I still use them
if necessary. The tricky part is when not to repair it if the puncture is to
far off the centre line of the tyre.
Having said that, I know people that wont run repaired tyres on their
motorcycles.
Hope this helps.
Brett.
