The shifter shaft goes through the engine from right to left. The end
of the shaft should be under the right side cover but outside the engine
cases.. A small spring that keeps the pawl up against the end of the
shifter drum to change gears. I have had this spring break on dirt
bikes and it give exactly the same condition. Bike Bandit does not show
this spring as a separate part. Most likely the clutch would need to be
removed to replace the shaft.
