Re: [St] Ear plugs, noise reduction and music

Hi,

First time post on here: I use the in ear Etymotic ER6i noise isolating ear
buds. The audio quality is excellent. They act like ear plugs so cut out
back ground noise - I often actually use them plugged into nothing as they
are nicer to wear than ear plugs. With my phone or ipod I can run at 120mph
and still hear music fine without having to turn the volume up. They cost
£70 in the shops but you can get them for about £45 on ebay. I had hunted
around for something like this for years - they really are the "holy
grail"!! Incidentally they do other models that go up to over £200 which
are considered reference quality - but what's the point cause you are always
going to have some level of wind noise.

Hope this helps

-Pete

I think they are around 300.00 to 400.00. There are some used ones on ebay
which isn't as ikky as it sounds because you can purchase new adapters. They
are really unobtrusive in your helmet. The wires wrap around your ear and
hold their shape. Shure makes lesser models but I'm not sure how good they
are on noise isolation and music quality.

Todd, Ken, All,

This was the whole point of my commentary yesterday:
If the music is important to you, you wont care. And
the Shure E5C is among the very best. Suprised I
couldnt remember the brand, but what the hell, I'm old
enough to be permitted a brain fart now and then. What
do a pair of those run these days?

What you really want if sound quality is of the utmost
importance is a pair of Stax Lambdas, but the helmet
required to house all that would make you look like an
Intergalatic Stormtrooper...

:-)

I'm joking of course, no way they could ever fit, but
they do sound wonderful in a static environment...
