Re: [St] Extra Fuel
At 200 miles round trip I would think you would need to fill up every
day. The rear rack is officially only rated at something like 20
pounds so maybe you could add three more gallons. I know others have
loaded far more weight than that, but it seems like a lot of trouble
to go to. Unless you could add another 5 gallons you'd still have to
visit a gas station every day.
That's absolutely the last place you want to put 40 extra pounds,
even if all you're doing is highway droning.
I'd get used to visiting the gas station on a daily basis. Actually
what I'd do is look for another job or another house. Life is too
precious to be wasting 3 hours a day commuting.

I have an interesting question which will probably spark an email
thread firestorm, but here it is with some background.
I was thinking of using the bike for a long commute (short term) at
98mi. one way. That will be clost to 200 miles round trip, which
means that I'd be filling up my pittly little 5.2 gal fuel tank 2-3
times a week.
Therefore I had a thought of buying a fuel tank to fit in my Givi
top box and running a fuel line under the seat to the pump (on the
side of my OEM tank) with a petcock.
Since this commute is straight up highway riding (i.e. no knee
dragging) the extra weight in that top box shouldn't throw off my
handling too much, right? Or is this just a down right stupid
thought of attempting?
What is everyone's opinion? I won't take offense so be honest.....
FIRE AWAY.
