Hey Derek....
Having had the same 'crisis of faith', I finally resolved on this solution.
First. $1000 is far less than $12,000 for an ST1300 or FJR1300. Second,
you don't put enough annual miles to warrant that kind of bike. Third, a
new seat and bar risers, and maybe a different windscreen will make your
trusted bike exactly what you want. (See the $1000 < $12,000 statement
above).
Just my 2 cents...

PS. I put 24K miles on my 00 ST in one year just commuting into DC for
work. Best year for riding for me. It was stock except the Heli-bars.
PPS Full Disclosure: I've recently sold the ST and am riding a DR-Z400SM,
but I wanted a smaller lighter 'in-town' bike because I only have 1.2 miles
to drive to work now, and I move to central PA where there are plenty
of dirt roads to explore. Still, I miss the ST. It was awesome and
dependable. I never had one single problem in 8 years of ownership.
Period. There's a Triumph again in my future.
