Re: [St] Speed

My current top speed on my GPS is about 250 MPH - needless to say I haven't
achieved that sort of speed on a bike and in fact the unit has never been on
a plane (and it's a 2610 which has no battery power anyway). I have no idea
how it got that speed but it's there...

My point is, the max speed displayed on a GPS would be laughed out of court
should someone try to use it against you. Or...should be :)

Even the video you shot shouldn't be able to be used against you - who can
tell if the speedo is calibrated, what gearing was being used (so you can't
use the tach to gauge speed). Now, dangerous riding etc. is another matter
entirely.

I always wonder about these GPS units that record max speed. It could be
used against you if the cop was savvy. I used to shoot video from a tank bag
mounted camcorder. It shot thru the winsheild and the video was framed on
the bottom by the speedo and tach. It was really cool, but I often wondered
what would happen if I got popped. I havent done it in a while. I didnt stop
because of that, rather my equipment got old and I didnt have the time to
mix and edit the raw footage afterward....

That's the question I keep repeating in my head. Remember, 7-10%
optimistic means that 10+ mph at 150... So when you see 160 on the
clocks, you MIGHT be doing 150. GPS is nice and will give you better
accuracy than the speedo. However, radar is pretty darn good at
recording speed. I suggest we find someplace where its "safe" to run

the bike as fast as it can go (like Bonneville maybe?) and get it on
radar. Then we'll know "for sure." Of course, rider size and other
factors will vary the top speed a bit too...
