slippery new tires

I have always heard to "take it easy" for the first 50 or so miles on a new tire. No hard accelerating or braking. This helps the tire's bead to properly set.....leaks? I guess the same holds true for cornering. Perhaps "hanging out" on the high side could help "scrub in" a tire by putting the bike at a greater lean angle, exposing more of the tire to the ground, while reducing the cornering forces. I think this makes sense.
