That's a good, traditional way of doing it (Hairspray).
But sometimes, you can't wait an hour. I've had to repair lots of bent
clip-ons at the track between race/practice sessions. Standard proceedure is
to use Brake Cleaner (my favorite brand is Spectro). Same instructions
(saturate thoroughly) but drying/curing time is _significantly_ less - about
20 mins. Not water soluable so it will work even if you're getting rained
on.
And as added insurance, standard practice is to safety wire
grips............
