You may have an alternative.  Sometimes you can find a local shop that will rewind the alternators.  Or you can use Electrex.  They appear to specialize in motorcycle alternators and regulators.  I just checked out there website, they don't appear to have Triumphs listed as a brand, but they do offer to rewind the alternator for less than $200.
