FWIW, I just paid $250 to have my valves adjusted, throttles sync'd and head 
bearing lubed/adjusted. I'm doing the rest of my 24K service myself. Since 
you have to leave the bike overnight (valves need to be done with a stone 
cold motor), I can see the commute to the shop and back being a hassle. My 
dealer is about a half hour from home, so my wife wasn't too annoyed with 
it. Can't say she'd be happy about an hour each way or more...
