The big difference when talking to someone on the phone or someone next
to you (car or other bike) is the person on the phone can not see what
is ahead of you on the road. Pay attention to passengers next time you
are driving, you will notice the conversation slows or pauses when you
approach an intersection or someone ahead of you is doing something
stupid. The person on the other end of the phone can not see and dangers
in front of you, thus they will not react giving you a warning, which is
of course needed when ever you are slightly distracted, as when you are
talking to some one.
Basically, when you are talking to someone traveling with you (separate
bikes or in the same car) generally speaking that is two sets of eyes
making up for the slight distraction. Where on the cell phone you have
all the distraction with no help warning you of danger.
cheers,
Tom
