[ST] Weekend Spin

Had a great spin on the ST yesterday morning.
Much needed to clear the cobwebs and to remind myself why I love bikes so
much.

I set out nice and early, 8:00am with the sun just up and the skies clear of
clouds.
A quick foray across the backroads to Naas, briefly onto the deserted M9
motorway to clear the triples pipes and then divert onto the N78 down
through Athy, Castlecomer and into Kilkenny for breakfast. The N78 is a
lovely biking road, just the right blend of sweeping curves, tight twisties
and elevation changes. Most of the way there was a low fog lying over the
fields to either side and it was regularly lit up red by the early morning
sun. All in all, marvellous therapy for the soul. The roads were mostly
deserted at that hour and the occasional car just served to set up perfectly
timed overtakes, the triple sounding awesome through the open wolf can as I
dropped down a gear to pass quickly and then rumbling ominously on the
overrun as I rolled off the throttle and shifted back into a cruising gear.

This is why I ride a bike rather than drive a car.
It's not to save time commuting to work.
It's not as an icon to buy into a lifestyle or a fashion statement.
Mornings like that remind me of the pure pleasure of being alive, enjoying
nature, enjoying the fruits of mans ingenuity and testing my own skills.

Gotta remember to do that again.
Soon. :O)
