Re: [ST] 99 sprint st chain adjusting question

Not if you use a big enough base on the jack. I'll take a picture of it and send it to you. Most of the time when I am using mine, to change the back tire or adjust the chain, I have the bike up on a Handy air lift which has a clamp for the front wheel. This is very stable and doesn't require any straps to stabilize it. Here is a hillbilly way of doing it. Take two 2X4's about 12" long and nail them to the garage wall at the hight of the front tire. Put the bikes front tire against the wall trapped by the 2 x 4's. Use the scissors jack to lift the rear tire just high enough to adjust the chain. If you want to really secure it put some eyelets into the wall and use straps.

Marc,
I have an ST that has a center stand, but when I have it up on my lift and want to raise the back wheel off the ground, I use a scissors jack for a honda civic that I found in a wrecking yard and screwed it to a wood base and made a wooden top for it and it works great. I can take a pic of it if you want.

Maybe I forgot to introduce myself - sorry. I'm a new convert to Triumph, after years of charging around on jap and german stuff. So far I'm pretty impressed.

Seriously though, I'd like to know how to get the chain adj done with the bike on the side stand , if its possible, as my RS doesn't have a centre stand.

thanks
