[ST] ST alternatives

Oh Hell,

Let me get in on the fun, too.

I was getting off a 1984 GPZ750 Kawasaki, which I bought used in 1990. When
I finally decided that I wanted a new bike AND had saved enough money for
it, these were the bikes I was interested in (and in the order I was
interested in them:

Kawasaki 1100 Ninja

Honda CBR1100XX

Honda VFR

Took the Ninja off my list when I heard that it was being discontinued in
favor of something newer. That seem alright to me. I figured that this
big, ole bike was pretty much at the end of its design cycle. And I wanted
something more modern. And I really didn't know what the next generation
was going to look like.

Took the XX off my list when I say on it. Bars too low, pegs too high. I
figured that I could fix the bars for a reasonable amount of $$$. But I
couldn't figure out how to fix the peg problem, or how to fix if for a
reasonable amount of $$$.

Sat on the VFR. Nice bike. But like Matt, it just didn't "speak" to me.
And besides, there's a million of them on the road, and I'd be just another
VFR rider. You see them coming and going all the time.

So, after my "top 3" went away, I took a hard look at the ST. Here's what I
came away with (but before I took a test ride): It's target was the VFR,
but it wasn't as VFR. It was a name everybody recognized, but they're not
as plentiful as the Hondas. They were offering the 2-year, unlimited
mileage warranty (including paint), which seemed like they were awfully
confident about the build quality. That warranty says a lot!!.

I then decided to take a test ride, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The bike felt like the correct size. It handled really well. And that
triple just seduced me. Still does.

The clincher: I bought the shop's demo bike, which had only abut 600 miles
on it. So, not only was it mostly broken-in, it had had it's first 500 mile
service that I didn't have to pay for. Out the door, I got it for around
USD 9200.

And the frosting on the cake: I'm only about 50 miles from one of the
absolute best Triumph dealerships.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
