Re: [St] Extra Fuel

I'm glad I'm not the only one here asking myself the question, Why?

Is it really that much of a burden to go to a gas station these days?
I do most fill ups without even getting off the bike. But if I had to
fill 2 or even three tanks it would certainly be less convenient.

Especially in the case of the original poster where his range is
barely getting him through one day. To save any trips to the gas
station it means he needs to DOUBLE his fuel capacity, or carry at
least another 5 gallons.

Well I can tell that you don't live in NJ (home of the shuffling Indian or Soviet gas station attendant). Where its mandatory full service, not self serve.
The average time for me get 5 gallons of gas in the bike is 18 minutes (the shortest is 8 minutes, longest was 35 minutes).
That short time was only because I regularly stop at the same station, the one attendant likes my bike, there were no prior customers, I tried to stop right in front of the pump that he was nearest and I nailed it right on 16.00 so I did not have to wait for change.

back when I was going a 108 miles round trip, I was buying fuel every other day from the same station. I would have given anything to have enough increased capacity to stretch the fill ups to three days or more.

But your math is correct, the OP to stretch his refueling interval, at a minimum he would have to stretch his capacity to double.
I still think that looking into enlarging the factory fuel cell and/or, adding a fuel cell to one hard side bag would be a possible solution.

The only other choices are
Radical weight reductions to increase the mileage (all carbon fiber, micro battery, crash diet, etc anyone? Bueller?).
Change jobs,
Move closer to work,

I thought about this a lot when I was looking into a cross country purchase-the-bike-then-ride-home-adventure.
The range of the bike with it's stock capacity would have had me spending an obscene amount of time stopping for gas and so with a very limited time envelope I finally gave up on that bike.
