Re: Protective clothing was RE: [ST] Uploaded pics

I think Chris is making a fair point and I agree with him.

Accidents can happen to anyone. I drive a car and ride a motorbike and
although I always try to be as observant as possible I am sure I could have
a bad day and cause an accident - life is just like that, no one is perfect.
Obviously it would be my fault if this happened and I would not try to deny
it.

But if you ride a motorcycle you know accidents do happen and if you ride
around with shorts and a T shirt and no helmet you can expect to be
seriously hurt in an accident that might otherwise have resulted in just
some bruises. Why should the person who caused the accident be penalised for
hitting an ill prepared motorcyclist instead of a sensible one? I think it
is fair to say that you contribute towards the severity of your injuries
through your own negligence, even though the accident is not your fault.

Also what if you have an accident which is your fault? Why should I as a tax
payer have to pay your medical bills through the national health because you
chose to wear no protective clothing (I guess this is different in the US
where you don't have a national health system)? People should take personal
responsibility for their own well being.

There is a guy in the town where I live who I regularly see on a Huyabusa
just wearing shorts, trainers, T shirt and a helmet. He is riding in busy
rush hour traffic and when he gets knocked off, which is inevitable
eventually, he will be in a mess which could be easily reduced with
approprite clothing. He will get no sympathy from me.
