I don't think Pledge will do any damage to your bike but neither will it protect
it very well.

For an inexpensive polish that works well on Black try Turtle wax colour magic.
Over here in Ireland it costs about IR£9 and a bag of soft cotton cloths costs
IR£4 It worked great on my old black Ninja.

If you have swirls or light scuffs in the paint try 3M hand Glaze to get the
paint to a mirror finish before using the colour magic. Again, it's quite cheap.
