Re: Eng Mount Adjuster Locknut?( Re: [ST] GSG MOKO)

Hi Brian

I'm extremely concerned by your comments. Yes the adjuster locknut that
we're talking about is the one with the 4 notches, I can't see mine now as
it is hidden by the slider but my memory only recalls one at the top engine
mountings. I don't know how old your bike is but in the light of your loose
adjuster locknut and your vibration problems, for safety's sake I would whip
it right down to a dealer and have all your engine mounting's tensions
checked over. The locknut for the adjuster was supposed to be at 55nm /
40.5 ft lbs and it needs a special tool to adjust it. It sounds as though
someone has not tightened it correctly in your bike's past. If the locknut
is not tight my concern would be that the adjuster may now not have the
correct tension. The manual does not say how many engine mounting bolts or
adjusters there are on the bike but they are located at the upper rear,
front and lower rear, if the engine were to be removed then these must be
tightened in the correct sequence. The quote from the manual is " Unless
the following engine mounting bolt tightening sequence is precisely
followed, severe frame damage can occur". This is why I said that only one
bolt should be changed at a time and that the adjuster should not be
disturbed.

What is the purpose of the "Engine Mounting Adjuster Locknut"? I'm
assuming this is the one with the 4 notches in the face of it?

Should there be more than one of these (my bike only had one on the
right side)?

How tight should this thing be? You say a special tool is needed to
remove it, but I just spun mine off with my fingers? Maybe this is why
my bike transmits so many vibrations?

Thanks,
Brian
