Re: [ST] Re: N.C.

The park rangers mainly use the typical Ford Crown Victoria's in white with
some green. There are also some older Ford Broncos running around. I think
all of them have lights on top, I've never seen an "unmarked" car - except
kind of (see below).

I've been in Charlotte for 6 years and have ridden the Parkway a minimum of
4 times a year averaging 70 - 80 mph and pass whenever I feel there is a
long enough straightaway or when I can see a clear road up the mountain.
I've been busted once - by a MINIVAN!! It was a maintenance vehicle that I
passed on a double yellow at speed, who radioed a ranger that came out just
for me - how special. So now I glance at the license plate before passing.
All of the government vehicles in NC have white plates with black lettering
and say "Permanent" at the bottom. I'm not sure what the Virginia vehicles
use for plates. The fine was $250 and I had to appear in Federal court in
Asheville, BUT no license points so who cares!. The Judge and Prosecutor
could have really given a shit. It took about an hour.

Funny story no motorcycles:

Two other parties in court that day:
1. Early 20's guy who was smoking pot and carrying an unlicensed AND
concealed handgun in his pickup got busted for both. He had a lawyer, so
they dropped the gun charge and gave him a $500 fine for possession - that's
it - goodbye.
2. Second guy is about 65 with his wife. He got caught by a ranger taking a
dump in the woods. How? I don't know. There are very few places to stop or
even to getoff the Parkway between Boone and Asheville. If you gotta go you
gotta go. He doesn't have a lawyer and tries to work something out with the
prosecutor (I wouldn't have gotton a lawyer either for this crap :) ). They
give him a $1000 fine and ban him from ALL national parks for 2 years!! I
couldn't believe it!

If you had a choice between running into a guy doped up with a handgun or a
guy taking a dump, which would it be?

completely crap - terrible surging, horrible vibrations, uncomfortable as
hell and very slow compared to the ST - the big twin takes ages to spin up.
Also the weird front suspensiion (telelever) gives almost no feedback from
the road. As you say, there is plenty of time for sightseeing. To be
honest I would save the cash and take the blue BMW 750 from Agogo - buy
yourself some beers and steak.
